Fine Arts to celebrate 25 years The University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts on Saturday, May 6.
The celebration will take place on the front lawn of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts with activities scheduled throughout the day. Activities include a student art sale and musical performance from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a rededication ceremony at 2:30 p.m. featuring Dr. Wayne Knutson. Other emeriti faculty will also make comments, and a free picnic will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.
The day will conclude with a celebratory concert featuring student ensembles. The event is titled "An evening of Turn of the Century Band Music" at 7:30 p.m. in the Knutson Theatre.
"This anniversary year has been both exciting and rewarding," said John Day, dean of the USD College of Fine Arts. "It allowed us to improve our facilities and especially our galleries, which were completely remodeled. The celebration also provided the opportunity to recognize Dr. Wayne Knutson by renaming Theatre I in his honor. Finally, the year raised our awareness of the college history and caused us to collect historical information and photographs."
