Michael Allen is new university Facilities Management director

Michael Allen is new university Facilities Management director Michael L. Allen has been named the director of Facilities Management at The University of South Dakota, according to a recent announcement by Greg Redlin, USD vice president of Finance and Administration.

"Over the next 5-10 years, USD will face a multitude of facilities issues, including the renovation of several major buildings on campus and the construction of a new business school," said Redlin. "Michael Allen's experience and education make him uniquely qualified to lead our facilities operations. We will rely on Michael's skill and talent to make those projects successful."

As director of Facilities Management, he will oversee preventive maintenance, custodial services, landscaping and grounds, as well as planning and construction activities.

Allen, who has been director of engineering and design at Lockhard Companies in Akron, OH, since 1997, has 20 years of progressive work experience in technical fields including management of engineers, consultants and construction and maintenance trades.

A licensed professional engineer in Ohio, he served as senior director of maintenance and operation from 1991-97 at the University of Akron (Ohio). He was a project engineer from 1988-1991 at B.F. Goodrich Company in Brecksville and Avon Lake, OH and served as plant engineer with the Packard Electric Division of General Motors in Warren, OH from 1983-88. He also worked on the General Motors Assembly Division in Lordstown, OH in 1978-79 and with Automobile Dealers in Youngstown, OH from 1971-78.

Allen, who received his bachelor of engineering degree from Youngstown State University in 1984, has been a member of the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers and National Society of Professional Engineers.
