Scholastic Book Fair helps kids discover joy of reading Children and their parents will discover a wide world of imagination, exploration, adventure, virtue and knowledge, as well as a multitude of new friends when they attend the Scholastic Book Fair at the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library on Thursday through Sunday, April 6-9.
Hours for the fair are 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Hundreds of new paperback books for young readers, books about people and places, mysteries and models, animals and adventure, science and sports, history and hobbies will be for sale, along with posters, bookmarks, pencils and other "bookish" items. Arranged by grade level, K-3, 5-6, and young adult, the displays are easy to browse for both children and parents.
"On Safari" is the fair's theme, conveying the idea that at the fair one may "track down" good books, have a "herd of adventures," or "go bananas over books."
Friends of the Library, sponsors of the fair, emphasize that reading and learning are keys to a child's future success and that a child's mind, like an oasis, may dry up if it isn't fed.
Profits from the sale of books at the fair will help the Friends in their support of the library's Summer Reading Program.
