Singles in Agriculture to gather in Vermillion The Northern Great Plains Chapter of Singles in Agriculture will host a "Welcome Spring" event April 14-16 in Vermillion.
Singles in Agriculture, organized in 1986, is designed to promote educational recreational and social opportunities for singles who have an agriculture background, are employed in an ag-related occupation or are actively farming.
Singles in Agriculture offers members the opportunity to correspond with and to meet other single farm people from throughout the country. Membership encompasses a broad age range, as well as single, divorced and widowed individuals. The Northern Great Plains Chapter of Singles in Agriculture includes Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
To kick off the Vermillion event, the group will gather Friday, April 14 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the 4-H Center, 515 High Street, for registration. A supper location will be decided at the time of registration.
The group will then car pool at 6:45 p.m. to Sydell Inc. for a tour of the company's livestock equipment manufacturing plant five miles east of Vermillion on Highway 50. The tour will conclude at 7:45 p.m.
The group will meet at 8 p.m. back at the 4-H Center for a car pool to Yankton for an evening of dancing, joining the Yankton Singles for their monthly dance at the VFW Club, 209 Cedar. The cost is $5 and music will be provided by the Countrymen.
Events on Saturday begin at 9:15 a.m. when the group meets at the Super 8 Motel in Vermillion to car pool to the Polaris plant for a tour that begins at 9:30 a.m. A tour of the W.H. Over Museum will begin at 10:45 a.m.
Lunch, at noon, will take place at the Silver Dollar Restaurant, 1216 East Cherry.
The group will tour the USD Fine Arts Gallery at 1:30 p.m., where graduate students are presenting their final projects. At 2:15 p.m. a tour of the Oscar Howe Gallery will take place, followed at 3 p.m. by a guided tour of America's Shrine to Music Museum.
After free time from 4 to 6:30 p.m., the group will gather for supper at the 4-H Center, followed by a dance at 7:30 p.m. The cost for supper and dance is $10. Participants are urged to bring their favorite CDs or tapes. Those who do not dance can bring board games or watch videos in the kitchen.
On Sunday, April 16, breakfast will take place at the Cherry Street Grille, 1122 East Cherry.
