Small group music contest a success Members of the Vermillion High School Symphonic Band attended the SDHSAA Region I Solo-Ensemble Contest at The University of South Dakota on March 7.
Of their 47 entries, the participants received 34 Division I (superior) ratings, 12 Division II (excellent) ratings and one Division III (good) rating. The band members were awarded a total of 146 superior medals.
The following soloists were awarded superior ratings: Risa Collins, flute; Katie Jacobs, flute, string bass; Alison Obr, flute; Ben Williams (1+), alto saxophone; Bridget Jacobs, f. horn, 'cello; Adam Nelson (1+), f. horn; Matt Williams, trombone; Tyler Engstrom (1+), tuba; Jon Hoadley, timpani, xylophone, viola; Sara Hoadley, 'cello.
The following soloists received excellent ratings: Anne-Marie Bickel (II+), flute; Catherine Odson, oboe; Jenna Williams, oboe; Jason Smith (II+); trombone; Todd Stephens (II+), euphonium.
