USD professor to conduct concert in Carnegie Hall Select high school choirs, directed by University of South Dakota Professor Larry Torkelson, will join together to form the Upper Midwest Youth Chorale and perform in Carnegie Hall in New York.
Two hundred members of the chorale will present a preview performance at USD on April 6 at 7 p.m. in Slagle Hall. The concert program will feature choral works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms, as well as 20th century composers.
"In addition to an intensive rehearsal schedule, the singers will attend a major Broadway musical and participate in several educational and sight-seeing activities while in New York," said Torkelson.
The Upper Midwest Youth Chorale is comprised of 350 singers from high schools in South Dakota, Iowa and Colorado.
