USD ranked 13th in Sears Director's Cup standings The University of South Dakota was one of three North Central Conference (NCC) schools listed in the top 15 of the Sears Directors' Cup rankings for Division II winter athletic programs.
USD is currently 13th with 253.5 points. California-Davis holds the top position with 484, closely followed by North Dakota State with 483. North Dakota holds the fourth spot with 385 points.
This is the second set of winter standings and includes the sports of women's and men's basketball, fencing, rifle, skiing, women's and men's swimming, women's and men's indoor track and field, and men's wrestling.
The Sears Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It is administered by NACDA and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports � seven for men and seven for women. Each national champion receives 100 points.
There are four Sears Directors' Cup Awards, one to honor the institution with the best all-around athletics program is each of the NCAA's Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA.
