VHS boys' track team comes up short April 1 by Jim Prosser The Tanager boys� track team played short-handed at the Dakota Valley Invitational April 1 with two varsity members hampered by injuries and unable to compete.
Missing were Derrick Brown and Eddie Filipovic who were �point-getters� at most of last year�s meets. Of the seven schools competing, Vermillion came in third scoring nearly 100 points.
Field events results for Vermillion were:
Discus � first, Tim Broderson; third, Tim Russell; fourth, Brandon Benzel;
Shot put � fifth, Anthony Senne;
High jump � fifth, Bo Nelson;
Long jump � first, Todd Anderson;
Triple jump � third, Anderson.
Jason Madsen placed third in the 100M dash and John Ring, Bart Miller and Darryl Neufeld were first, fourth and sixth, respectively in the 800M run, while Eric Dehner won the 3200M with a time of 10:10.8.
In the relays, the 400M had a second place finish by the team of Tyler Vacek, Madsen, Thad Roche and Dan Tolsma. Third place was claimed in the 3200M relay by Neufeld, Tyler Engstrom, John Ring and Jordan Thompson, and the 1600M relay by Adam Brook, Thompson, Mike Buckanaga and Tolsma. In the 800M relay, the team of Vasek, Madsen, Tolsma and Buckanaga registered a fourth place, and the medley team of Brandon Gann, Jeff Brevik, Leif Nygaard and Leland Smith were sixth in their relay.
The Tanager boys� and girls� teams competed at the Elk Point-Jefferson Invitational on Tuesday, April 4 at the new track facility in Elk Point.
