VHS girls place first at Dakota Valley Invite Led by two "state qualifers" the Tanager girls' track team scored 147 points to win the Dakota Valley Invitational last Saturday, April 1.
Sarah Mollet and Nicole Pederson placed first in their "specialties" � shot put and triple jump, respectively � to reach the qualifing standards for the state meet in May.
"It was a good team effort and I'm very pleased with all the groups competing," said Coach Jim McGuire. "It's great to have two state qualifiers at the first meet."
Placing fourth in the shot put was Abby Moore, with Jackie Powell and Amy Carlson
second and third, respectively, in the triple jump.
Four Tanagers placed in the high jump: Jaclyn Powell, first; Nicole Pederson, third; Annie Carlson, fourth; and Meggie Donnelly, fifth.
Salina Dunkeson placed fifth in the 100M hurdles and second in the 300M hurdles. Elly Kjose was first and and Carly Bernard fourth in the 100M dash. In the 800M run, Beth Pier, Megan Griffith and Kelly Peterson placed third, fifth and sixth, in that order, and the 1600M run had Angie Rydell second and Natalie Tuetken fifth. The 3200M run was led by the first place finish of Kathy Plate.
In the relays, firsts were won in the 3200M with members Tessa Tuetken, Michelle Rasmussen, Beth Pier and Kathy Plate, and the medley with Ellie Kjose, Nicki Pederson, Tuetken and Rasmussen.
The 800M relay team placed second (Kjose, Jenna Gilkyson, Carly Bernard and Kelly Peterson), and the 400M relay team was third (Gilkyson, Bernard, Donnelly and Brenda Banks).
Seven schools were represented at the meet.
