Memorial Day services set May 29 in Vermillion Vermillion will honor its war dead with special Memorial Day services on Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m. in the National Guard Armory.
Leo Powell, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will give the introduction. Boy Scout Troop 165 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation will be given by the Rev. Sandy Aakre.
General John Logan's Orders will be read by Dave Wherry and the guest speaker is Darrel Christopherson. Leonard Bottolfson, VFW quartermaster/adjutant, will give the honor roll call.
Wreaths will be placed by Jerry Anderson, American Legion commander, Evelyn Hermanson, American Legion Auxiliary president, Opal Smith, VFW Auxiliary president, and Jeff Styles, VFW senior vice commander.
Marlys Miller will sing The Star Spangled Banner, followed by the benediction given by the Rev. Aakre.
The VFW firing squad will present the salute to honor the dead, followed by Taps by Carla Gonyo.
"This is a special day to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom," Powell said. "The public is invited to share in these special services that pay tribute to them."
