Red defeats White 41-21 in spring game at Dome Behind a solid ground and aerial attack, The University of South Dakota's "Red Team" (starters) defeated the "White Team," 41-21 in the annual Coyote spring game May 4.
The Coyotes were led by the play of sophomore halfback Cary Gantt and freshman quarterback Ryan Justice on offense and Josh Stamer and several others on defense as the Coyotes closed out their spring football season.
The "Red Team," who spotted the "White Team" 21 points, received 130 yards and two touchdowns from Gantt. Fullback Tim Cook also scored two touchdowns and fullback Mike Weister also scored. Justice was 13-25 for 241 yards and had a 70-yard hookup with freshman wide receiver Rick Eisenlauer. Stamer led the defense with an interception that he nearly turned into a touchdown near the end of the fourth quarter. The "Red Team" led 27-21 at halftime.
The Coyotes will open the season Aug. 31 at St. Joseph, MO, when they play Missouri Western State College.
