Tanager girls' track team shines The Tanager girls' track team scored 109 points to place second at the Region 4A meet last Friday, May 19 at Beresford.
Lennox was first with 205 and the other schools and point totals were: Beresford 89, third; Elk Point-Jefferson 77, fourth; Dakota Valley 75, fifth; Canton
67, sixth; Harrisburg 52, seventh; and Alcester-Hudson 40, eighth.
To qualify for the state meet the first and second place scorers in each event are selected. Also, any member of the team who meets the standard, set by
the state in any event, will be qualified.
VHS scorers in field events were:
Sarah Mollet placed third in the shot put; Jaclyn Powell scored a fifth place in the long jump; Anne Carlson was third in the triple jump, while Powell and Meggie Donnelly placed in the high jump � third and fifth, in that order.
Salina Dunkeson placed fourth in the 100M hurdles and fourth in the 300M hurdles. The 100M dash had Elly Kjose coming in third. In the 800M run, Michelle Rasmussen came in second with a 2:23.98; and the 160M run found Kathy Plate placing second in 5:40.01 minutes. To complete the distance running events, Angie Rydell placed third in the 3200M.
In the relays, fifth place went to the 4x100M team with members Jenna Gilkyson, Nicole Pederson, Carly Bernard and Kjose; and the 4x800M relay team came in third with members Tessa Tuetken, Beth Pier, Brooks and Rydell. The sprint medley team with Gilkyson, Kjose, Bernard and Pier won second place in 4:41.3 minutes to qualify for state.
