Tanagers miss first place by 10 points at home meet The Tanager boys' track team took advantage at home by scoring 122.66 points, in the 2000 VHS Booster track meet last Saturday, May 6, but came up 10 points short from winning the meet.
The eight schools entered finished in this order: West Central (133 points); Vermillion (122.66); Tri-Valley (110); Chester (60); Dakota Valley (46); Scotland (39.33); Elk Point-Jefferson (39); Gayville/Volin (1).
The history of springtime weather has been unpredictable but the sun and southerly breeze were ideal and made for top-notch performances.
Field events results for Vermillion were:
Discus � Tim Broderson, first with a toss of 141'3"; Shot put � Anthony Senne, second, Todd Anderson fifth and Ray O'Connor, sixth; Long jump and Triple jump were swept by Anderson, with 19'1" and 42'.25" for winning distances.
Derrick Brown placed fourth in the 100M dash and Jason Madsen, Thad Roche and Dan Tolsma were third, fourth and fifth in that order in the 200M dash. In the 300M hurdles, Josh Kyte and Seth Nesselhuf placed fifth and sixth.
Tyler Engstrom won the 800M run with a time of 2:11.1 minutes, and Bart Miller finished fourth. Jon Brooks placed fourth in the 1600M run and Darryl Neufeld came in second in the 3200M.
In the relays, the 4x100M had a first place finish with the team of Tyler Vacek, Jason Madsen, Dan Tolsma and Thad Roche, and the 4x200M relay team placed first (Vacek, Madsen, Tolsma and Derrick Brown).
The 4x800M relay was second with team members Miller, Brooks, Brown and Neufeld, and second place also was claimed in the medley relay by the team of Roche, Thedorf, Mike Buckanaga and Jordan Thompson.
