VMS boys' track teams compete at Canton invite The Canton Middle School Track Meet held on Friday, April 22 involved nine schools: Akron-Westfield, Beresford, Canton, Elk Point-Jefferson, Harrisburg, Lennox, Tri-Valley, Vermillion and West Central.
Team standings were not computed.
The placers for the seventh-grade boys were:
In field events: Shot put � Jordan Anderson first 38'6"; Long jump � Kyle Mollet first 14'2.5", Kenny Mays sixth.
In the dashes: 100M � Mollet fourth, Anderson seventh; 200M � Mollet third, Anderson seventh; 400M � Chad Teigen seventh.
In the 800M distance run � Jon Miller sixth, and the 110M hurdles had Ben Oberle in third and Chris Teigen seventh.
The 4×200 relay team placed fifth � Mays, Anderson, Ryan Mockler and Mollet � and the 4×400 relay team also came in fifth � Mays, Chad Teigen, Chris Teigen and Oberle.
VMS eighth-grade placers were:
Field events: Shot put � Kellen Cusick first, 49'11.5"; Discus � Cusick second; Long jump � Jared Burcham third; High jump � Tyler Brown second, 5'1".
In the dashes:
100M � Burcham third, B.J. Campbell fourth, Mike Clark fifth; 200M � Cusick second, Burcham fourth, Clark fifth.
In the long distances:
800M run � Brown third; and 1600M run � Andy Hayner third, and Justin Manning fourth.
The 4x200M relay team placed second � Campbell, Cusick, Clark, and Burcham � and the 4x400M relay team finished fifth � Max Swanson, Brian Varns, Mitch Bierle and Brown.
