Clubs Lions Club

Incoming Vermillion Lions Club President B.J. Naik called the regular meeting of the Lions Club to order at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, at the VFW Clubroom.

Lion B.J. announced that the summer picnic will be held on Thursday, July 13, at the south shelter at Prentis Park. Lion Jack Doyle is in charge of arrangements. The meal will be catered and spouses will be welcome. The new officers will be installed at the picnic. Lion B.J. requested that members sign up for committees for the coming year.

The next regular meeting will be held on the first Thursday in September.

Lion Young Moore introduced retired Major General Lloyd Moses who presented the evening's program.

Moses, who was born on the Rosebud Reservation, received his degree in chemistry from The University of South Dakota in 1931. In addition to his military career, Moses has been a cowboy, an author, and retired as chair of USD's Indian Studies Program in 1964.

Moses spoke about the Sioux Nation and the history, language and culture of its people and how they came to live on the Great Plains.

The next meeting of the Lions Club will be the picnic on July 13.

Senior Citizens Center

On Wednesday, June 14, the Senior Citizens Center Card Party had 34 players of which 10 played pitch, four pinochle, three skip-bo, and 17 bridge.

Barb Kronaizl was high in bridge; Marlys Miller, second; Clois Smith, third; Ernie Metler, blind bogie; and Eve Marshall, low.

Refreshments were furnished by Jim Prosser.

Jolly Juniorettes

The Jolly Juniorettes 4-H Club met June 13 at the 4-H center. Tia Krier led the Pledge of Allegiance. Sarah Anderson led the 4-H pledge.

Fruit money was distributed to members. This month's 4-H guidelines were discussed. Members were reminded of their fair work assignments.

Ariel Begley demonstrated on the "Bear Necessities of Bear Making."

The next meeting date is July 11.
