Eta Chapter will host state convention

Eta Chapter will host state convention Eta Chapter of the Alpha Pi State of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will host the 42nd state convention in Vermillion June 9-10 on the campus of The University of South Dakota.

Delegates will be arriving on June 9 for workshops and business sessions. USD President James Abbott will give greetings at the executive board meeting.

On Friday evening, a reception and a tour of the Shrine to Music will be conducted. Saturday, June 10, the day will begin with an inspirational breakfast with the hour of remembrance to follow. The general business meeting will be held under the leadership of State President Brenda Martens, Vermillion. Gloria Christopherson, Chamber of Commerce president, will give the welcome to the city of Vermillion.

The birthday luncheon will be held Saturday to celebrate the 71st birthday of Alpha Pi State. State Founder Dr. Marjorie Beaty will be honored at the luncheon. Past state presidents and Alpha Pi state members will be recognized for their years of service. State Communications Chairman Lynette Molstad will present awards for the newsletter and scrapbooks. A convention bid will be extended by Theta Chapter of Sioux Falls. A Founder's Day program will be held under the direction of Shirley Pullman. Past state presidents will assist.

The president's banquet will be held with the outgoing and incoming chapter president march for 2000-2002. The highlight of the banquet will be the featured speaker, Jean Gray, first vice international president of the state of Maryland.

Eta Chapter members designated to serve as chairmen of various committees for the convention are Sharon Hanson, registration; Gerry Van Bruggen, reception, Shrine to Music; Carol King, executive board dinner; Marjean Barta, inspirational breakfast; Margaret Cash, hour of remembrance; Donna Schafer, birthday luncheon; Sara Carlson, banquet; Linda Wymar, hospitality; Mary Johnson, publicity; Margaret Melby, photographer; all Eta Chapter members are assisting. Linda Wymar is Eta Chapter president and Mary Geffre Johnson is convention chairman.
