Farber's birthday will raise scholarship money The University of South Dakota announces that a special occasion, "Doc Farber's 90th Birthday Celebration," will be held on Saturday evening, July 8, at the Sheraton Hotel/Sioux Falls Convention Center.
USD President James W. Abbott, the Farber Fund, the Department of Political Science and the USD Foundation are sponsoring this celebration of Doc Farber's many achievements and contributions to public service as well as to USD and higher education.
The event, a no-host reception at 5 p.m. and a dinner at 6 p.m., will feature NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw and entertainment and sports host Pat O'Brien.
"This is a fitting way to honor a man who has given so much not only to USD but to South Dakota and the region," said Bill Richardson, director of the Farber Center. "Clearly he is a person who has been an outstanding teacher. But Doc's most lasting legacy will surely be his nearly seven decades of untiring service as a truly extraordinary mentor of students. Many of those who benefited so much from his attention will be present on this special night."
Tickets are $100 each, with approximately $75 of that constituting a tax deductible contribution to Farber Fund Scholarships.
