Annie Carlson qualifies for national youth track meet

Annie Carlson qualifies for national youth track meet The Vermillion Youth Track Club competed at the 2000 USATF/Iowa State Junior Olympic Championship meet on June 17-18 in Johnston, IA.

Place winners were:

Matt Nelson, fourth � long jump (12' 5").

Casey Carlson, sixth � 800m (2:58.23), eighth � 1500m (6:12).

Andrew Manning, first � 3000m (10:56), second � 1500m.

Annie Carlson, first � long jump (15' 1 1/2"), 100m hurdles (17.41) and triple jump (31' 3"), and third � 200m hurdles (32.57).

All participants qualified for the USATF Region 8 meet held June 29 through July 2 at Lincoln, NE. Region 8 is comprised of athletes from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and North and South Dakota.

Place winners at the Region 8 meet were:

Matt Nelson, sixth � long jump (12' 3").

Casey Carlson, 15th � 800m (2:57).

Annie Carlson, first � triple jump (32' 7"), fifth � long jump (14' 7 1/4"), eighth � 200m hurdles (32.23) and second � pentathlon � 2288 points. The pentathlon is a one day competition consisting of the 100m hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and 800m.

The top three placewinners qualify for the National USATF Junior Olympic meet to be held July 25-30 in Buffalo, NY. The national meet is the world's largest youth track meet. Annie Carlson has qualified to compete in the pentathlon and the triple jump.
