Fischbach named regional ambassador for Make-A-Wish The Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Dakota announces the appointment of Bruce Fischbach of Vermillion as regional ambassador for the organization for Region #6.
Fischbach will serve as the area liaison recruiting volunteers, coordinating fundraising events and promoting Make-A-Wish programs for the region which includes the six counties of Bon Homme, Charles Mix, Clay, Hutchinson, Union and Yankton.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a statewide, non-profit organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Twenty-nine children in Region #6 have been Make-A-Wish recipients.
Funds are raised to grant these heartfelt wishes through corporate, individual and memorial donations along with fundraising events which include building of a home and selling it on the real estate market, golf tournaments, motorcycle raffles and rides, the Adopt-A-Wish and Kids for Wish Kids Program. Each wish costs an average of $4,500.
The Fishbach family has experienced the magic of Make-A-Wish, as their son, Dylan, who has sarcoma, traveled to Walt Disney World in 1997.
Fishbach, his wife, Kelly and children, Ryan, Kiley and Dylan reside in Vermillion. He is director of sports medicine, head athletic trainer and an instructor for The University of South Dakota. He has a master of sports science degree in sports medicine from the U.S. Sports Academy in Mobile, AL and a B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Fishbach has been serving as a volunteer for Make-A-Wish since Dylan received his wish. Seven other volunteer regional ambassadors throughout the state work with the staff at the chapter office located in Sioux Falls.
