'High Steppers' compete in Omaha by M. Jill Karolevitz Heather�s High Steppers, a baton team from Vermillion, competed July 8 in the West Central Regional Championship in Omaha, NE.
Coached by Heather Reeves, 15, the team members, with an average age of 5, are Ellen Hanson, Tatum Zimiga, Rory Tucker and Courtney Elle. In the �Half-time Show Twirl� division, the team earned first place in Open and third place in Regional, during which they competed with other teams from South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas.
Reeves also competed in Omaha in the Open Individual Competition and the Advanced Junior Division. She placed first in Miss Majorette of the West Central Region, first in Advanced 13-15 Regional Strut, first in Beginner 13-15 Regional Two-Baton and third in Advanced 13-15 Regional Solo. She is now competing for National Solo Miss Majorette in the National Championship, which runs from July 25-28 in South Bend, IN, at the University of Notre Dame.
Other Vermillion baton twirlers who traveled to Omaha were Nicole Spindler, Ali Johnson, Shannon Robinet, Lindsay Robinet, Molli Greenfield, Bobbi Greenfield and Danielle Hauge. Shannon Robinet placed fourth in Beginner 10-12 Regional Solo and fourth in Miss Majorette. Lindsay Robinet placed third in Beginner 0-6 Regional Solo. In the Novice 19-24 Regional Duet, Shannon Robinet and Bobbi Greenfield placed second.
