Home Legion baseball team sweeps Beresford on June 22 A double header against Beresford resulted in the improvement of the season win/loss record for Vermillion's Post #1 Legion team.

Played at Prentis Park in Vermillion on June 22, it was a replacement session for the Lennox double-header that had been scheduled and resulted in another sweep.

Drew Lawrence started the first game and was credited with the win as he went the distance giving up three runs on a one-hitter, striking out five and walking seven, facing 28 batters in the six-inning stint.

The team staked him to a three-run lead in the first inning and extended the lead to 5-0 in the second. The defense allowed the only earned run following an error, fielders' choice, and the only single for Beresford.

Scoring stats for Post #1 were: Tim Broderson � three for three hits, one run, two RBIs; Aaron Baedke � two for three, one run, one RBI; Steven Varns � one for three, two runs, one RBI (HR); Brett Mockler � one for two, one run; Jason Madsen and Dan Holoch each scored a run and Lawrence aided his own cause by singling in the final score of the game.

The second game found the locals falling behind 4-3 after two innings with starting pitcher Dan Tolsma being thwarted by some sloppy plays, four wild pitches, two errors and two stolen bases to go with three timely hits which necessitated a middle relief pitcher in the form of Tim Broderson who held the opposition to one run while Vermillion's offense took over scoring six runs in the third and fourth innings making him the winning pitcher of the 9-5 victory. Dan Holoch came in to pitch the final two innings and registered a save.

Scoring and RBI results were: Varns � three runs, three for three hits; Broderson � two runs, two for three, four RBIs; Tyler Vacek � one run; Eric Rickord � one for three, one run; Todd Anderson � one run; Pat Brooks � one for three, one run; Dan Tolsma one for three, two RBIs.

Line score: Vermillion � nine runs, eight hits, three errors; Beresford � five runs, six hits, seven errors.
