Cleo Wade, 77, of Vermillion died Monday, July 17, 2000 at the Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital in Vermillion.
Cleo Mary Lee was born May 22, 1923 in Vermillion to Hubert and Dora (Chaussee) Lee. She attended the Vermillion schools, graduating from Vermillion High School in 1942. She married Robert Fuchs on Nov 5, 1946 in Vermillion. He died in 1969. She later married Walter Wade in Vermillion on Dec. 20, 1975.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Senior Citizens Center, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas as well as a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion.
She is survived by two sons: Paul Fuchs of Vermillion, and Bill and his wife Patti Fuchs of Pierre; two daughters: Joanne Rolfes of Bloomfield, NE, and Gayle Fuchs of Vermillion; one brother: Dean Lee of Sioux Falls; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, and a son, Jim.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 20, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion was in charge of arrangements.
Fern G. Culmer, 90, of Sedan, KS died Monday, June 5, 2000 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born Sept. 28, 1909 in Burbank to William E. and Elsie C. (Maude) Flippin. She was raised in rural southeastern South Dakota in the Vermillion area. She was a businesswoman dealing with real estate investments and also did a lot of cosmetology work. She had an intense love for learning. She attended many seminars in Texas and also went to the University of Iowa. She met and later married Lyle Culmer in 1953 in Sheldon, IA. In 1955, they moved to El Dorado, KS. They were later divorced in 1970. Later in her middle ages, she also attended the junior college in Arkansas City, KS. Besides continued education, also loved to keep up on fashions, her favorites being hats and gloves. The last five years of her life were spent at the Pleasant Valley Manor where she kept her spirited disposition and entertained friends with her sense of humor.
She is survived by her only daughter: Hazel Jane Walker of Austin, TX; and two grandchildren: Monnette Jean Floyde of Roanoke, TX and Robert Lyle Walker of Austin, TX.
Cremation has taken place. Inurnment for Culmer was at the BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion on Friday, June 16.
