Success at last! Post #1 gains victory at Fargo It looked pretty bleak for Vermillion's Post #1 Legion baseball team after three innings of game number four, played against Sioux Falls Post #15 West at the Fargo Tourney as Sioux Falls took a 2-0 lead into the fourth.

As you have been accustomed to the "never say die" attitude, it should not be surprising that Vermillion's batters came alive in the top of the inning, led by Jason Madsen's home run, followed by three singles to bring in three runs and take the lead, sending seven batters to the plate.

The scoring rampage continued in the fifth when singles by Brett Mockler and Dan Holoch, followed by a Madsen double brought another seven batters up and two more runs scored. West scored one more time (fifth inning) but that was it, as Vermillion closed out the scoring with five runs in the final inning.

Todd Anderson was the winning pitcher, facing 27 batters, giving up three runs on six hits, striking out six, walking one.

Offensive stats for Post #1 were: Madsen two for three, two runs, two RBIs; Tyler Vacek one for three, one run, one RBI; Steven Varns one for four, one run, one RBI; Aaron Baedke one for three, two runs; Tim Broderson one for three, two runs, two RBIs; Adam Brooks, two for four, three RBIs; Anderson one RBI; Mockler one for four, one run; Dan Holoch one for three, one run.

Line scores: Vermillion 10 runs, 10 hits, two errors; Sioux Falls West three runs, six hits, five errors.

The next scheduled games for Post #1 are this weekend Friday through Monday, July 14-17 as Vermillion hosts the regional tournament involving teams from Tea, Beresford and Lennox.

The double elimination format promises to include double header games every evening until only one team is left with less than two losses.
