Vermillion qualifies for finals with 15-0 victory At the Region 3B tournament, in the losers' bracket third round elimination game, Beresford Post #72 was soundly trounced by Vermillion Post #1 15-0, leaving only Lennox undefeated and scheduled to face Post #1 at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 17.
With a Vermillion victory, there would be a second game played at 7:30 p.m.
Umpires for the game were Randy Burcham and Bob Mayer.
The game was like "a walk in the park" when Drew Lawrence stifled Beresford in all phases of pitching as he issued two bases on balls, seven strike-outs, one hit and no runs in his complete game victory.
The Vermillion team again scored in bunches, chasing starting pitcher Tom Babb in the third inning, scoring twice in the opening inning when lead-off batter Jason Madsen walked, Tyler Vacek sacrificed him to second while making it to first base on an error, after which Todd Anderson drove Vacek in.
The second inning was uneventful but a whole flock of runs were scored in the third and fourth (seven plus six) to set up the five inning 10-run rule which ended the contest. Further play-by-play really isn't necessary since the statistics will give a good indication of how things went.
