Vermillion rodeo team qualifies for state finals Vermillion High School rodeo team members Melissa Gale, Casey Gale, Laura Brunick and Megan Griffith competed at regionals June 10-11 and June 17-19 for the chance to advance to state finals June 23-25 in Rapid City, and national finals, scheduled July 25-30 in Springfield, IL.
In order to qualify for the state tournament, competitors had to place in the top 10 at either of two regional rodeos, held in Winner or Watertown.
The entire Vermillion team qualified for state finals competition held in Rapid City June 22-25.
Regional results are:
June 10-11 in Winner
Casey Gale � First and second in bareback riding; eighth in bull riding and fourth and seventh in bull dogging.
Melissa Gale � Second in breakaway roping.
Megan Griffith � Seventh in barrel racing.
June 17-18 in Watertown
Casey Gale � First in bareback riding, first in bull riding, fifth in bull dogging, fifth in team roping.
Melissa Gale � Fifth in team roping.
Laura Brunick � Eighth in pole bending.
