Vermillion's Legion Post #1 wins 1 of 3 at South Sioux After the rain-out of the Lennox double-header, Vermillion's Legion Post #1 baseball team traveled to South Sioux City, NE, to compete in their invitational tournament June 24-25.
The scoring for Vermillion was pretty sparse in the first and third games as they suffered losses of 16-2 against Pierce, NE, and 14-1 against Omaha-Skutt, NE.
Tim Broderson was clipped for the loss in game one, going 3 2/3 innings. Drew Lawrence relieved. Steven Varns and Broderson scored the only runs for Post #1.

The game three loss was charged to Dan Holoch who pitched 1 1/3 innings and was relieved by Todd Anderson. Varns scored the only run on a first inning home-run.

Game two in the tourney was against Tekamah-Herman, NE, and gave Post #1 its only win, a 10-8 "squeaker." Eric Holoch was the starter, going 2 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and seven runs (five ER), with Dan Tolsma relieving for the remaining 4 1/3, surrendering only one run on one hit and registering six strike-outs to claim the victory.
Vermillion was out-hit by Tekamah-Herman 7-6, but took advantage of four errors, three walks and three timely home-runs (two by Tolsma) to out-score them.
The offense was led in scoring by Tolsma with two runs on two hits and four RBIs; Also Jason Madsen � two runs; Anderson � two runs, one for two hits; Brett Mockler, Dan Holoch and Tyler Vacek each scored one run; and the final scoring came from Varns who went two for four, scoring two runs and driving in five (also hit a home-run).
