Downtown clean-up planned Aug. 19 Roxie Miller of Community First State Bank met with members of Vermillion Beautiful, Inc. on Aug. 1 to offer the cooperation of Vermillion's banks in a downtown clean-up effort.
Bankers from Community First, CorTrust, First Dakota National Bank, First National Bank and Norwest have recently discussed a need to clean-up Vermillion's downtown and selected Vermillion Beautiful, Inc. as the vehicle through which it can cooperate to complete the task.
Plans for the clean-up include weeding along buildings and sidewalks, weeding and planting fall flower gardens, and pressure washing sidewalks. The effort will require the aid of volunteers and will be underwritten by the Vermillion banks.
The parking lot of Community First State Bank will serve as the meeting grounds for the clean-up project. Volunteers will pull weeds and clean streets from Forest Avenue to Washington Street and Bloomingdale to National. Fall mums will also be planted.
The effort, according to Judy Clark, Vermillion Beautiful Inc. spokesperson, is an attempt to improve the physical appearance of Vermillion prior to the arrival of USD students in late August. Volunteers are invited to meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 with tools and good humor intact. Any overflow of volunteers will be guided to other areas of town for clean-up.
