Hanson named USD Employee of Month A friendly disposition, organizational skills and the willingness to go the extra mile has earned Lorraine Hanson of rural Centerville the August Career Service Employee of the Month Award at The University of South Dakota.
Hanson, a secretary in the USD accounting office, was honored during a ceremony Aug. 2 in the Colette Abbott Room of Old Main. USD President James W. Abbott presented Hanson with a plaque and a check.
"More than anything, I enjoy the rapport I have with my bosses, the flexibility we have, and the cooperation we have within our department," Hanson said. "Out of 11 people I work with in accounting, seven have been there for 16-plus years. We have a lot of history and it's enjoyable working with them."
Supervisors Jerald Bartling and Monte Kramer nominated Hanson based on her ability to handle the difficult job of being the secretary for both the comptroller (Kramer) and the assistant comptroller (Bartling).
"She has been with me for 15 years, so I basically rely on her," said Bartling. "She tells me when reports are due, when meetings are coming up and keeps me out of trouble. Lorraine is always coordinating special projects and she does it in a professional manner. She's basically my right hand person."
"Lorraine does everything from secretarial duties, to auditing, to accounting, to spreadsheets, and always with a smile," Kramer said. "She makes every day go by faster with her warm smile and friendly disposition. I think she is a great ambassador for the Accounting Office and USD. She's very friendly and personable for everyone who calls or comes into the office."
Hanson, originally of Pipestone, MN, began working at USD as a secretary in the office of accounting in July, 1984. She and her husband, Rollie, have three daughters, Holly, Stacie and Sarah.
