Healthy Kids/Healthy Community The Healthy Kids/Healthy Community Task Force met at 5:45 p.m. July 31 in the Sioux Valley Vermillion Campus boardroom.
Committee members were informed that an individual involved in presenting training sessions for QPR, an acronym for Question Persuade Refer, will be attending next week's meeting. QPR includes a training program on the prevention of suicide among young people. Plans also have been made to invite a member of The University of South Dakota's crisis response team to appear at a future meeting to talk about the process of emergency suicide intervention and alcohol and drug-related intervention.
The task force is currently exploring the feasibility of establishing a saferoom in the Vermillion community where young people contemplating suicide can seek help.
Task force members also will be getting in touch with people in Madison and Pierre who are involved in the implementation of the Yellow Ribbon Program in those communities. They will share their findings at a future meeting.
The next meeting of Healthy Kids/Healthy Community will be held at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in the Sioux Valley Vermillion Campus boardroom. The public is encouraged to attend.
The primary purpose of this Task Force is to create a stronger Vermillion community by providing physical, emotional and spiritual health and safety for the children, youth and adults of our area.
