USD names summer graduation candidates

USD names summer graduation candidates University of South Dakota President James W. Abbott and Regent James O. Hansen of Pierre conferred degrees to 335 candidates Aug. 3 at The University of South Dakota's 71st Summer Commencement.

USD Professor Emeritus Jan Ebersdorfer of Mitchell encouraged graduates to be grateful to USD and to the state of South Dakota for providing the opportunity to reach and achieving their goals in her speech titled, "Vision-Challenge-Tradition."

Jay M. Newberger, director of court services for the South Dakota Unified Judicial System in Pierre, received an honorary doctor of public service degree. Jim Clement of Omaha, NE, spoke on behalf of the USD Alumni Association. Emeriti Professors Allen Johnson, Joan England and Corinne Milburn served as honorary marshals.
