Corps of Rediscovery meeting scheduled in Vermillion Oct. 5 South Dakota's Corps of Rediscovery will meet 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5, at the W.H. Over Museum in Vermillion.
The group is responsible for statewide plans and preparations associated with the Lewis and Clark bicentennial, 2003-2006.
Agenda highlights include Tim Bjork of the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation, who will discuss the latest developments at Spirit Mound. Lewis and Clark visited the historic site near Vermillion in 1804. The foundation is working to purchase Spirit Mound and surrounding acreage.
Communities along the Lewis and Clark Trail will give updates on their preparations for the bicentennial. The Department of Tourism will present certificates to attendees who have qualified to become official members of the Corps of Rediscovery.
