Gazelles take Tanagers for third tennis match

Gazelles take Tanagers for third tennis match In the third attempt against the Yankton Gazelles within the past month, the Vermillion High School girls' tennis team lost the match 8-1 on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Vermillion courts.

"With illness suffered by the Tanagers' regular number one player, Maya Ristic, the other members of the team stepped in and played hard," said Coach Barb Rickord. "Lindsay Iverson looked strong against tough number one Kyna Williams of Yankton. Tori Collins and Catherine Odson had a very close doubles match that could have gone either way, and Justine Reimnitz looked steady in her win at number four singles. Also, freshman Savannah Day won her JV singles match 6 to 4."

Singles: Kyna Williams (Y) def. Lindsay Iverson 10-6; Brittany Wilson (Y) def. Tori Collins 10-3; Abby Washburn (Y) def. Catherine Odson 10-3; Justine Reimnitz (V) def. Jessica Mathison 10-8; Lyndsay Wilcox (Y) def. Jessica Leffers 10-4; and Jennifer Muller (Y) def. Elizabeth Slagle 10-5.

Doubles: Williams/Wilson (Y) def. Iverson/Leffers 10-7; Washburn/Mathison (Y) def. Collins/Odson 11-9; Erin

Stanage/Muller (Y) def. Reimnitz/Slagle 10-1.
