Musicians sought for Old-Time Fiddle contest America's Shrine to Music Museum on the campus of The University of South Dakota is looking for South Dakota fiddle, accordion, and harmonica players to participate in the 29th annual South Dakota Old-Time Fiddle Contest and Jamboree, Sept. 22-24, in Vermillion.
Although the contest which includes a National Invitational brings some of the country's finest fiddlers to Vermillion, contest organizers particularly want to include all South Dakota fiddlers who are willing to share their music with the hundreds of people who attend the event each year. Special divisions have also been added for accordion and harmonica players who are encouraged to participate as well.
Contestants are grouped by age in the open division contests, ranging from junior/junior (through age 12) to senior/senior (75 and older). Added this year is a South Dakota Championship Contest, open to residents who are 18 or above by Sept. 22. Contestants must play a waltz and a tune of their choice, other than a waltz.
