School comments by Doug Tuetken New Staff
As we begin the 2000-2001 school year we welcome several new staff members to Vermillion High School. These staff members are: Jason Gault, Language Arts Instructor, Kevin Gunn, Art Instructor, Travis Hensch, Language Arts Instructor, Kirsten Iverson, Vocal Music Director, Mark Iverson, Social Science Instructor, Erin Reynolds, Social Science Instructor, Bill Settles, Physics Instructor, Troy Terronez, Language Arts Instructor, and Barb Cameron, Library Aide and Computer Monitor.
As of Sept. 7, the high school has 455 students enrolled, with the following grade level enrollments:
9th grade – 125 students
10th grade � 125 students
11th grade � 103 students
12th grade � 102 students
T-Week has been scheduled for Sept. 18-23. Currently the students are in the process of selecting the design for their class T-shirts. The overall theme is "T-Week salutes our National Defenses"
The T-Week motto is "The Few, The Proud, The Tanagers: Marshaling our defenses to beat Lennox." The homecoming royalty has been selected, and we congratulate the students for their selection.
The 2000 queen candidates are Katie Carlson, Elly Kjose, Sara Mollet, Tressa Olson, Jaclyn Powell and Natalie Tuetken. The 2000 king candidates are Tim Broderson, Adam Brooks, Darryl Neufeld, Don O'Connor, Anthony Senne and Chris Sinke.
The candle holders selected for the coronation ceremony are Jenny Dicksenson, Beth Pier, Lana Johnson, Leslie Larson, Lindsay Iverson, Justine Reimnitz, Brett Hogan, Chris Lynch, Shane Manning, Tim Russell, Tyler Vacek, and Chris Yutrzenka.
The noon Olympics begin on Tuesday Sept. 19 and continue through Sept. 21. These traditional Olympics will consist of a number of fun activities among our students and staff. Parents and community members are welcome to observe.
Coronation is Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Following the crowning of the queen and king a pep rally will he held south of the building with the lighting of the "V" along with a fireworks display.
Friday, at 2:15 p.m., the homecoming assembly will be held in the gymnasium. Friday night the Tanagers host Lennox at the DakotaDome. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The homecoming dance will be held Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 in the high school gymnasium. The community is also invited to these activities.
