Tanager cross country teams host invitational Ten schools were represented at the Vermillion Invitational Cross Country Meet on Friday, Sept. 15 with competition in both varsity and JV, boys' and girls' divisions.
Team points for the top six teams in the boys' varsity division were: Madison 25; Vermillion 32; West Sioux 42; LeMars 61; Dakota Valley 87; and Sioux City East 93.
First runner across the finish line was Vermillion's Eric Dehner with a time of 15:48 on the old golf course complex. Other finishers were: Darryl Engstrom, fifth; Ben Parsons, 13th; Paul Tims, 17th; Tom Smith, 31st; Ben Williams, 41st; and Josh Kyte, 46th.
For the varsity girls, team points were: Madison 28; Vermillion 33; West Sioux 49; Centerville 53; LeMars 98; and Sioux City East 108.
In a race with 41 entrants, Melissa Ramos of Centerville came in first with a time of 15:16. Tanager placers were: Michelle Rasmussen, fourth; Angie Rydell, fifth; Natalie Tuetken, 13th; Beth Pier, 15th; and Theresa Ring, 16th.
In the boys' JV division there were 27 entries with Tyler Brown earning the first place finish for the home team with a time of 13:43. Other Tanager placers were: Justin Manning, fifth; Wilber Lio, ninth; Mitch Bierle, 12th; Thomas Dendinger, 20th; and Anish Patel, 24th. LeMars, West Sioux and Dakota Valley went second, third and fourth in the division.
The three Tanager entrants in the girls' JV division placed first, fourth and sixth as West Sioux had the only complete team and scored 10 points for the win. The Vermillion girls were Morgan Brooks, Nicki Mollet and Carly Bernard.
There also were middle school divisions with Katie Dehner and Sarah Plate gaining first and second with times of 13:13 and 13:20, respectively, in the girls' section; and Danny Redlin placing fourth in the boys' section.
