Vermillion freshmen defeat Wagner 18-14 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanager freshmen defeated the Wagner Red Raiders 18-14 in girls basketball Sept. 7 at home in a matchup that was close throughout.
Kayla Mollet scored 8 points.
�She played strong and wanted to score,� said VHS freshmen Coach Chris Fehring.
The game was knotted 6-6 after the opening period, the Tanagers led 10-8 after the second period, and then led 12-10 going into the fourth quarter.
�We came out strong leading 6-0 in the first, but Wagner didn�t quit,� said Coach Fehring. �I give a lot of credit to our team for not folding under pressure.�
The VHS freshmen team improved its season mark to 1-2, while the Wagner freshmen fell to 1-1.
VHS freshmen connected on 0 of 2 free throw attempts while the Red Raiders connected on 2 of 10 from the line.
Several individual efforts helped in the win.
