Candidate forum set October 11 State legislative candidates from District 17 will discuss their views and answer questions from the audience at an Education Issues Forum scheduled at the Vermillion High School on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The forum starts at 7 p.m. and will conclude by 8:30 p.m.
Recent polling conducted throughout South Dakota indicates voters rank education as the most important concern this election year. The forum is an opportunity for the voters of District 17 to learn the candidates' position on important education issues. The forum will include time at the end for questions from the audience so participants will have a chance to ask the candidates questions.
Candidates will also discuss Amendment E, the proposal to allow broader investment options for the permanent school fund. According to figures from the Department of School and Public Lands, passage of Amendment E would mean an estimated increase of $24,899 for Centerville, $14,034 for Hurley, $26,636 for Marion, $119,957 for Vermillion, $21,337 for Viborg and $15,085 for Wakonda.
District 17 legislative candidates H. Junior Engbrecht, Judy Clark, Maxine Johnson, BJ Nesselhuf, Joe Reedy and Donna Schafer have indicated that they will participate in the forum.
