Children's Theatre Company coming to town The Children's Theatre Company of South Dakota, an outreach of the Black Hills Playhouse, will conduct a weeklong residency that will culminate in a musical production using local youth with suitable parts designed for every age, skill, and experience level.
After school rehearsals will involve cast members and junior and senior high students who will serve as assistant directors and assist with sound, lights, and mounting the set. The company's actors, directors and Dan and Debra Kern Workman have had extensive performing and directing experiences.
An emergency meeting of the D.A.K.O.T.A council (Distinguished Allied Kritters of the Area) has been called by Lenny the Buffalo to solve this mysterious mystery. The adventures begin as Lenny the Buffalo, R.N. Pheasant, Wallace Walleye, Yote Coyote, and many other colorful characters go on a quest to the Rich Farmlands of South Dakota, the Badlands, the Grasslands, and the Black Hills to uncover those famous faces. Along the way they find, with help from the Wise Old Water, the true identity of South Dakota's great faces and great places.
Auditions are Monday, Oct. 30 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at the Washington Street Arts Center. Rehearsal for those cast follows at 6 until 8 p.m. After school rehearsals will be held Tuesday through Friday with a 30-minute dinner break where children bring a sack lunch, and rehearsal continues until 8 p.m. Performances will be Nov 4 at 2 and 7 p.m., in Farber Hall, Old Main, USD campus.
The residency is sponsored by the Vermillion Area Arts Council, the Wayne S. and Esther M. Knutson Foundation, the South Dakota Arts Council, and the State of South Dakota.
