Coyotes' track, field team to 'trick or treat' for food donations to food pantry Members of The University of South Dakota track and field team will "trick or treat" on the Sunday (Oct. 29) prior to Halloween in an effort to help the Vermillion Food Pantry.
Sponsored in conjunction with the Vermillion Food Pantry, the South Dakota track team members will pick up non-perishable food items beginning at 1 p.m. throughout the city of Vermillion. To assist the Coyote student athletes, Vermillion residents are asked to place the items at the curb in their yards. Anyone interested in donating items for the food pantry may drop off items at the DakotaDome ticket office, Jones' Food Center or Hy-Vee between Oct. 23-30. The pantry is in need of chili beans, jams/jelly, soda crackers, graham crackers, macaroni and cheese, beef stew, tomato soup and cream soups, as well as bathroom accessories such as small tubes of toothpaste, and toilet paper.
"The food pantry has a very important function in our community," said USD women's track coach Lucky Huber. "By supporting the pantry, we are assisting fellow community members that may need support at this point in their lives. It is always important for student athletes to participate in activities that improve the community in which they live. We believe this will help some families who need support right now and serve as a learning opportunity for our student athletes as they again experience how important community service is to this area."
