Lewis and Clark efforts noted The Department of Tourism recognized charter members of the South Dakota Corps of Rediscovery at a statewide Lewis and Clark meeting, Oct. 5, in Vermillion. The group is responsible for statewide plans and preparations associated with South Dakota's Lewis and Clark bicentennial, 2003-2006.
Lt. Gov. Carole Hillard and Patricia Van Gerpen, secretary of the Department of Tourism, presented certificates of membership in this distinguished group to representatives from Vermillion � Jim Peterson, Dr. William Farber and Mary Edelen.
Following the presentation, members heard reports from the National Lewis and Clark Congressional Caucus, the National Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation, and the Southeast and Great Lakes tourism regions. Tim Bjork of the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation gave an update on the purchase of Spirit Mound, a historic Lewis and Clark site near Vermillion.
