New director Suzanne Willadsen, who most recently managed the artist-in-residence program at Deerfield bank, has been hired as director of the Sioux Empire Arts Council in Sioux Falls.
Willadsen has been involved with the Artfalls since its first year, when she was one of four area artists to propose the project. Long term, she will be responsible for creating a network of arts and cultural organizations that will make the Sioux Empire Cultural Plan a reality.
Willadsen pursued an art degree after high school, but put college on hold to raise a family.
She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1976. While in high school, she painted a 12 foot high portrait of Beethoven on the band room wall as an art project.
Willadsen is the daughter of Vera and the late Harlan Emerson.
