The Tanagers carry their ranking into the 16-team state tournament Friday and Saturday in Aberdeen.
The Tanagers' opening-round opponent will be #14 ranked Pierre, in a match that will be played at 8 a.m. Friday. The Tanagers defeated Pierre early in the season by a score of 6-1. Should the Tanagers prevail over Pierre, the team will face either Yankton or Spearfish in the second-round match which will be played at 1 p.m. Friday.
"We are very proud and thrilled to have accomplished what we did this year," said Coach Jeff Pederson. "The strength of the team has been our defense, which has given up an average of only 1.3 goals per game. We have also diversified our attack this year, which has really worked to unbalance the defense of opposing teams. If we can produce a few goals, we have a realistic chance to place very high in the tournament."
