Tanager golfers end season at state The Tanagers' Brett Hogen was in fifth place after the first round of the SDHSAA state tournament at Mitchell on Oct. 9 and 10.
His intention was to improve this position in the final standings. However, in making the attempt, he was forced to take some chances in his play and the results were not what he had hoped for.
His 158 tie for 10th, helped lead the Tanagers' team to 12th-place in the 21-school event.
Other team members recorded the following scores:
Nathan Boots 168; Rob Schaack 174; and Jeremi Cowman 176.
"Every member of the Tanager tournament team held or improved their position on the second day of the competition," said Coach Kirk Hogen. "I was very pleased with their performances even though each one of them felt they might have done better.
"Beating the scores of all the 'A' teams was a plus for our Vermillion program," he continued. "Nathan and Rob, the younger members, had the opportunity to gain valuable experience for the future; and Jeremi was an important contributor to the season's success also."
