USD chapter for 'Habitat' to hold 'sleep-out' to raise homelessness awareness The University of South Dakota chapter for Habitat for Humanity will hold its annual Sleep-Out to Help Out event on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
This event is held to raise awareness about homelessness and hunger.
A shelter is built where USD students will spend the day and night outside. As part of this event the group will collect non-perishable food and sell advertisements. These advertisements will be made of cardboard to also be used as insulation.
Area residents are asked to consider making a donation to this event by either dropping off items at the shelter on the east side of the Coyote Student Center on Oct. 18 or by buying a piece of cardboard. You can either decorate the cardboard yourself or have us decorate it for you.
The money that is collected will be donated to local Habitat for Humanity projects.
The food items collected will be donated to the Vermillion Food Pantry.
If you would like to purchase a piece of cardboard or have any questions at all, contact Nicol Schickedanz at 624-4497 or Melissa Vollmer at 624-4900.
