VHS teams place 3rd and 4th at state The Tanager boys' cross- country team scored 66 points to place third in Class 11A at the SDHSAA meet run at Huron on Saturday, Oct.21.
The top Vermillion runner with a clocking of 17:21.78 was Eric Dehner who led the VHS boys' contingent with an individual third place in the 5,000 meter division which included 15 teams totaling 130 participants.
Michelle Rasmussen ran a 16:25.29 clocking to finish in second place and lead the Tanager girls' contingent to fourth in their 4,000 meter division. As with the boys, 15 teams, totaling 130 runners, were entered.
Other Tanager representatives in the boys' division were: Darryl Neufeld, 17:31.98, fourth; Tyler Brown, 35th; Ben Parsons, 53rd; Paul Tims, 65th; and Justin Manning, 93rd.
Vermillion's other girls' team finishers were: Morgan Brooks, 15th; Beth Pier, 55th; Katie Dehner, 59th; and Theresa Ring, 122nd.
Coach Dave Dannenbring was very pleased with his charges as they faced a super group of Class 11A runners from Pine Ridge, Douglas, Madison and McCook Central.
