VHS tennis team loses 7-2 to SF Washington Playing the three straight girls' tennis team "powerhouses" at home doesn't improve the season records but it does help prepare the Vermillion Tanager team members for the state tournament which begins on Thursday, Oct. 5 and continues through Oct. 7 in Sioux Falls.
At the Vermillion High School court, the Tanagers lost 7-2 against a strong Sioux Falls Washington team, last Thursday, Sept. 28.
"Maya Ristic had a good win at #1 singles but Lindsay Iverson was out with a shoulder injury at #2 so the line-up shifted for this match," said Coach Barb Rickord. "Also, Jessica Leffers did a great job moving up to #5 singles, and Justine Reimnitz and Elizabeth Slagleheld on to win the tiebreak at #3 doubles. In JV play, Savannah Day won her singles match."
Varsity singles results: Maya Ristic (V) def. Jill Weisser 10-5; Megan Gaster (W) def. Tori Collins (V) 10-0; Chris Lanpher (W) def. Catherine Odson 10-1; Laura Brooks (W) def. Justine Reimnitz 10-0; April Duffy (W) def. Jessica Leffers 10-8; and Auitra Zaske (W) def. Elizabeth Slagle 10-6.
Doubles: Weisser/Gaster (W) def. Ristic/Leffers 10-1; Lanpher/Brooks (W) def. Collins/Odson 10-1; and Reimnitz/Slagle (V) def. Duffy/Zaske 11-10 (8-6).
Deanna Russell/Britt Fremstad lost their JV doubles match 8-6, while Savannah Day scored an 8-6 win in singles.
