Annual hunger banquet will be held Nov. 19 The Newman Center is sponsoring the annual Hunger Banquet this Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Newman Center on Cherry Street. The event increases awareness and raises funds for hunger relief agencies such as Oxfam America and Bread for the World.
The Hunger Banquet dramatizes the unequal distribution of food and resources in today's world. Participants are randomly placed in high, middle, and low-income groups proportionate to the distribution of resources around the globe. At the Hunger Banquet itself, most will eat only rice, some will eat rice and potatoes, a few will eat a chicken dinner, and a couple will be served a steak dinner.
At this year's Hunger Banquet, Jon Hoadley will present an oratory by Elie Wiesel. Tickets are $2 and may be purchased in advance or at the door on Sunday. Proceeds go to the above hunger relief organizations. For more information, call 624-2697.
