Mediation specialist to lecture Nov. 17-21 Professional mediator Bonnie Castrey of Huntington Beach, CA, will present three lectures on labor management mediation and one dispute resolution workshop at The University of South Dakota Nov. 17-21.
The USD School of Business management department is sponsoring her visit.
Castrey will give a presentation on "Dispute Resolution in the Educational System" in Room 202 of Patterson Hall on Friday, Nov. 17. There will be a novice mediation/dispute resolution workshop Saturday morning, Nov. 18 for all interested students, staff and guests from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Farber Hall.
An intermediate mediation workshop will follow, also in Farber Hall, from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will receive a certificate, which will be mailed to them upon completion of both workshops.
Castrey will speak about "Labor Relations and the Human Resource Manager" on Monday, Nov. 20 with Dr. Michael Card's Human Resource Management class from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in Patterson Room 200. She will address Dr. Charles Roegiers' Labor Relations class on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 12:30 p.m. in Patterson Room 202, presenting "Open Forum: Adventures of Professional Opportunities for Career Development."
Internationally recognized as an expert in alternative dispute resolution, Castrey presently teaches a course on mediation at Western State University College of Law at Fullerton, CA. She has served in numerous local and national organizations.
Castrey spent a decade as a commissioner in the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. She has assisted over 2,000 parties to reach agreements through mediation in industries from auto parts and construction to theme parks and transportation.
She helped the parties resolve the 1984 Disneyland/Master Services 22-day strike. Most recently, President Bill Clinton appointed her to a second five-year term on the prestigious Federal Services Impasses Panel, where she was appointed chairperson.
