Salazar, Yutrzenka named September students of month Anne Salazar and Chris Yutrzenka were selected as the First National Bank September Students of the Month at Vermillion High School.
Along with the recognition for their leadership and work ethic, they will receive a $100 scholarship for their post-high school education.
Salazar leads a busy and productive life. She is involved with the Vermillionaire, EARTH Club, chorus and the school musical as well as past participation in band. Community service is also high on her priority list as she has been involved with fundraising for the March of Dimes and the American Lung Association.
Salazar relates that she enjoys "indulging myself into my Hispanic background and comparing it to the cultures of America." She plans to major as a chemical engineer, lab technician or in biosystems. Her parents are Diego and Rita Salazar.
"Chris is an extremely bright, involved student," according to Yutrzenka's faculty recommendation. His school activities and community service work almost appears endless.
Yutrzenka's school activities include soccer, Student Council, National Honor Society, High School Democrats, Natural Helpers, tennis, debate, Student Congress, EARTH Club and concert choir. He was a 1999-2000 National Youth Leadership Scholar and a 2000 Youth Business Adventure participant.
His community service efforts include Habitat For Humanity, Healthy Kids/Healthy Community, Relay for Life, Catholic Youth Organization and working on a political campaign. His future plans are to study business law and to eventually become a business owner. Barbara and Gerald Yutrzenka are his parents.
