USD Holiday Concert to be held on Nov. 17 The University of South Dakota Brass Choir and Chamber Singers will present a special Musical Holiday concert on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. in Slagle Auditorium on the USD campus.
The ensembles are conducted by Larry Torkelson and Rolf Olson.
The Chamber Singers will perform the famous Ceremony of Carols by the celebrated 20th century English composer Benjamin Britten. Featured student vocal soloists include Brandy Kitzmann of Sioux City, IA, Shelly Bottorff of Webster City, IA, and Ken Oakley of Rapid City. The Singers' performance of Gloria (1996) by Emma Lou Diemer will feature USD faculty pianist Dr. Susan Keith Gray and senior piano major Eric Eichorts of Waseca, MN. Freshman piano major Alex Verburg of Sheldon, IA will also accompany. Other featured USD student vocal soloists include Mecia Morgan of Custer, Samantha Hoskins of Storm Lake, IA, Erin Little and Brad Hanson of Sioux City, IA and Aron Nevin of Pierre.
The USD Brass Choir program will also feature 20th century compositions including the Liturgical Symphony by Fisher Tull, Variations on a Hymn by Edgar Crockett, and special jazz arrangements of well-known Christmas songs by Richard Peaslee.
The Singers and Brass will conclude the holiday concert with the performance of the third movement of Hodie! This Day by Z. Randall Stroope. The public is invited to attend the free event.
